Usaran Talav: The Hidden Gem Near Panvel

It’s truly strange how we never appreciate the things that are close by and instead lust after what we cannot have. Around Mumbai, several great tourist destinations are hidden gems because many Mumbaikars never dream of going there.

 

One of these hidden gems is Usaran Talav.

What is Usaran Talav?

Usaran Talav is a beautiful lake near Panvel. It is quite big in size, covering about 56 acres, and is surrounded by tall hills and lush greenery, making it a picturesque spot that has become popular with travelers in the know.

Over the years, this beautiful lake has developed into a tourist destination. Many young people come here to just hang around and spend some time in the lap of nature while some come to explore and try out some adventurous activities like swimming, fishing, bird watching, or trekking.

 

Where is Usaran Talav?

Usaran Lake is located close to Mumbai. It is near Panvel and Rasayani, both of which are about 8-10 minutes away. Right next to the lake is the famous Karnala Hill, which acts as a landmark. Usaran Lake can also be easily accessed by train as the train station is only about 8 Km from the lake.

Usaran Talav can also be accessed by bus or car as it is only around 12 Km from the Panvel Bus Stop, but if you are going there in a car, you will not be able to drive up to the edge of the lake. Instead, you will have to park a few km away and then walk or cycle the rest of the way.

 

What can you do at Usaran Talav?

Usaran Lake is a great spot to enjoy the natural beauty of the area but there are several activities that one can engage in around this spot. For starters, the road leading up to the lake is dotted with interesting eateries and shops that are worth checking out.

What is most amazing about this lake is that it is very clean. The water is clear, and many people like to swim here or dip their feet. When you dip your feet or touch the water, much small fish will try to nibble on your skin. If you are not afraid of fish, this is a great place to immerse yourself in natural waters.

There is also a wonderful waterfall at Usaran Lake due to the Sawla Dam, which holds the lake’s waters. The waterfall is especially pretty in the rainy season when the lake is full of water and the falls are swollen. In the summers, the lake does not dry up but its water levels do go down considerably.

At Usaran Talav, one can explore, picnic, trek, take pictures and go fishing. It is quite close to Karnala Bird Sanctuary and therefore, many species of beautiful birds can be observed here. Overall, there are a lot of things to do here, especially for the adventurous.

 

Where can you stay when visiting Usaran Talav?

There are several resorts in Panvel where one can stay when visiting Usaran Talav but the best amongst them is the Visava Amusement Park and Resort. This is an interesting resort that has a water park inside the property.

The water park consists of several swimming pools, various slides and rides, an artificial wave machine, a rain dance complex complete with music and lights, and a great restaurant called Garam Masala. Guests can swim, play around and have fun here. If you decide to stay overnight, the resort has comfortable rooms and suites too.
